Literacy Leader Information
This will be my second year as a Literacy Leader for Springfield Public Schools. This student-focused initiative aims to improve student learning in reading. Teachers from Field (one from K-2 and two from 3-5) and teachers from throughout the district will receive additional training in reading and become a facilitator of reading instruction in classrooms throughout his/her school.
This year, I will be the grades 4-5 Literacy Leader at Field. One morning each month, I will attend professional development training and learn about ways to help students become more strategic, independent readers. One to two other mornings each month, I will work with students in grades 4-5 and their teachers at Field. My colleagues and I will team teach, and this will give us the opportunity to closely watch students. Through collaboration and reflection, teachers will have the opportunity to learn from each other, communicate needs, improve our instructional practices, and strive as a team to continually increase student achievement.
I am honored to have the opportunity to learn more about reading instruction and work with other teachers and students at Field in this endeavor. I strongly believe it helps teachers have a common language to evaluate and strengthen our literacy instruction, and it shows students we truly are life-long learners. I have hand-picked a substitute (who happens to be my mom, Mrs. Wolfe, a retired SPS 5th-grade teacher), so your child will continue to receive high-quality instruction.
Thank you for your support!
