Sept. 30, 2015Dear Classroom Families,
Thanks for those who were able to make it to Open House last night! I know schedules are busy, so I appreciate your effort and energy. Here are a few things that are relevant for you and your family. I wanted to take a moment to share with you some information and updates regarding this year’s report cards. As a district and site, we are continually working to improve our processes and move towards more authentic forms of assessments. Our goal is that assessment provides feedback to foster ongoing growth that closely connects teaching and learning. This year, you will notice that students will receive feedback in the form of numeric indicators on their report card rather than letter grades. More detailed information will be given with the report card so that families may clearly understand the indicators. You will see the numbers 0-3 near some of the indicators or a NG (not graded at this time). An indicator that has not been assessed yet, will be scored an NG and will be scored later in the school year. It is also important to note that a variety of informal assessments take place on an ongoing basis within the classroom setting. My intention is that these forms of assessment continually move students forward as they grow as learners. This feedback also continually guides and directs my instruction. It is our hope that this improved system of reporting better reflects our ongoing authentic assessment of the processes in which children learn. First quarter report cards are scheduled to come home on Friday, October 23. In addition, if you do not have a Canvas login for yourself as a parent (we encourage you to have your own, separate from your child's) please make some time to stop by the office (unless you did during Open House) to obtain login information. You are required to show a photo ID to obtain login information. Finally, here is a link to a survey about technology at Field School. Please take a moment to complete it. We are very lucky to be an IGNiTE "Year 1" school and Springfield Public Schools appreciates your feedback Parent Survey: www.BByt.es/WX7XP. This link is also available on the Field website under “Click here to take the BrightBytes parent survey.” Of course if you have any questions at any time or if you would like more information please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail. Sincerely, Mrs. Aho Sept. 24, 2015Hi Parents,
As many of you already know, IGNiTE is a Springfield Public Schools initiative to provide resources and support for all teachers and students. The goal of the program is to provide students with an engaging, relevant, and personalized learning environment. This year 1/3 of Springfield Public School sites became IGNiTE sites. Next year another 1/3 will make the change with the goal being that in three years all SPS sites will also be IGNiTE sites. This year Field is honored to be a part of the program. Please visit our district’s IGNiTE site for more detailed information! Please save the following dates in your calendar:
Stay tuned for more information! Sincerely, Mrs. Aho
